Debbie Day (Casper, WY) won the Western Horizon Award, which recognizes a member for their first major work published during the previous year. Judy Matheny, 2017 Awards Chairperson, presented the award.

Jeanne Rogers (Sundance, WY) presented the Gaydell Collier Memorial Scholarship to Corinna German (Laurel, MT) on the left and Andrew Call (Farson, WY) on the right. Gaydell Collier, a founding member of WW, Inc. and Bearlodge Writers, was dedicated to the craft of writing and encouraging her fellow writers.

Nancy Ebbert read anonymous first pages, and the panel of judges reacted with a red or green paddle as soon as they had a strong feeling about the piece. They then explained why. The judges were Patricia Landy, Aaron Linsdau, Caskey Russell, and Nina McConigley.
